Do they answer the phone?

I’ve had a Hearing dog for just over a year now and I’ve noticed from comments that some people are unsure what a Hearing dog does. Two things they don’t do:

  • A Hearing dog doesn’t answer the telephone for their deaf owner (I wish!)
  • A hearing dog doesn’t listen carefully and then sign what someone is saying to their owner. 😉

A CODA is a hearing Child of Deaf Adults. Hearing children are born into Deaf families and sign language (any of over 300 hundred national sign languages) is their first language. We run equality, diversity and mental health training courses, across the UK. On every course we ask in advance. “Do any of the learners have access needs?”
