Overview
This 2 day course is accredited by Mental Health First Aid England. It will give you the skills to support colleagues, clients, family or friends should a mental health issue or crisis arise.
You will learn how to:
- Start a conversation with colleagues, clients, family or friends who may be experiencing poor mental health
- Listen and guide someone to the right supports
- Manage a mental health emergency
Who should come on the course?
- All staff including front line staff, line managers, senior management team and back office staff
- Other people associated with your organisation such as volunteers or tenants
- People supporting a family member or friend with a mental health issue
Learning outcomes
On completion of this course learners will be Mental Health First Aiders and be able to:
- Spot the early signs of a mental health problem
- Understand depression and suicidal crisis
- Understand more about anxiety, eating disorders and self-harm,
- Understand psychosis and conditions where psychosis is a risk such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
- Feel confident helping someone experiencing a mental health issue
- Provide help on a first aid basis
- Guide someone towards the right professional support
- Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others
- Help stop a mental illness from getting worse
- Support someone to recover
- Reduce the stigma of mental health issues
