Online Mental Health First Aid Adult (Tues 6th to Tues 27th Oct 2020)

This two day Online Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course, run by Sunsurfer Consultancy, supports and enhances learning by using two trainers - Mickey Fellowes and Jeff Walker.  Jeff Walker has lived experience of mental ill health and has worked as Director of Bristol and national Mind.

Mickey Fellowes - the Director of Sunsurfer Consultancy – has worked to reduce stigma and discrimination against disabled and D/deaf people and mental health service users for over 20 years.  As well as training for Sunsurfer and MHFA England, he is an Associate Trainer for the British Safety Council – delivering training across the UK.  Our training is highly rated and we ensure that learners are comfortable by meeting their explicit or implicit needs.

Training is 15 hours of learning:

  • Seven hours of self-directed learning by yourself
  • Eight hours of online sessions with the tutors and fellow trainees

The live online sessions are over 4 consecutive Tuesdays from the 6th October to the 27th October 2020.

  • Individual learning – 1hr
  • 6th October 1000-1200 − Live session one – 1hr 45min
  • Individual learning – 2hrs
  • 13th October 1000-1240 - Live session two – 2hrs 20min
  • Individual learning – 2hrs
  • 20th October 1000-1215 - Live session three – 2hrs
  • Individual learning – 2hrs
  • 27th October 1000-1215 - Live session four – 1hr 55min

You need a webcam and microphone to participate.  The live sessions work best using Chrome on a laptop/desktop PC or Mac.  Safari is not yet supported.

This online course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider accredited by MHFA England, giving you:

  • An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix
  • Completion of this course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider
