Sunsurfer offer a range of courses including courses accredited by Mental Health First Aid England and Scotland's Mental Health First Aid.  We also run our own highly regarded courses that can be tailored to meet your needs.

Deaf Awareness

Builds awareness and understanding of how individuals and organisations can be more accessible to deaf people. The practical activities build tactics and strategies for facilitating good communication. This course is always delivered by at least one deaf tutor. Learn more about Deaf Awareness.

Disability Equality and Awareness

Builds awareness and understanding in your teams so staff can engage with colleagues and clients with disabilities confidently, appropriately and in keeping with UK legal requirements and better meet their needs. Learn more about Disability Equality and Awareness.

Equality and Diversity

An insight into the value and relevance of diversity and how organisations can meet their obligations under the Equality Act 2010. The course includes activities around the different protected characteristics and types of discrimination. Learn more about Equality and Diversity.

Introduction to British Sign Language

A fun engaging course that provides the basics to get you started communicating with a British Sign Language (BSL) user. This course is always tailored to include specific signs that are relevant to your organisation. Learn more about Introduction to British Sign Language.

Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA) Adult

This accredited by MHFA England 2 day course will give you all skills to be able to manage a mental health issue or crisis that may arise with colleagues, clients, family or friends. We know what to do if someone falls and cuts their knee, this is the mental health equivalent. Learn more about Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).

Online - Mental Health First Aid England

This is the same course as the accredited by MHFA England 2 day course but delivered online using Zoom or MS Teams.  The training will give you all skills to be able to manage a mental health issue or crisis that may arise with colleagues, clients, family or friends.  Learn more about Online - Mental Health First Aid England

Online - MHFA Refresher (England)

The four hour MHFA Refresher course is only for people who have done MHFA training 3 or more years ago.  The refresher training will empower you to:

  • Keep your awareness of mental health supports current
  • Update your knowledge of mental health and what influences it
  • Practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan

Scotland's Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) Adult

This accredited by SMHFA 2 day course will give you the skills to be able to manage a mental health issue or crisis with family, colleagues, friends and acquaintances.  SMHFA gives you the confidence to provide initial support on a first aid basis and signpost the person to further professional help.  Learn more about Scotland's Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA).

Mental Health First Aid England - one day

This one day mental health awareness and skills course, accredited by MHFA England, qualifies you as an Adult MHFA Champion.
MHFA Champions have:

  • An understanding of common mental health issues
  • Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness
  • Ability to spot signs of mental ill health
  • Skills to support positive wellbeing

Online - Introduction to Mental Health Awareness

Introduction to Mental Health Awareness is an entry level short course, delivered online using Zoom.  The course content includes: -

  • What is mental health?
  • Mental health continuum
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Psychosis
